The business problem
Cape, by Solo — curated social events membership for single/solo people across the whole Western Cape (locals and travellers alike), not just Sitari/Helderberg. First regional instance of the wider "Solo" premium brand (future: other regions, "Travel, by Solo"). Activity-led community (padel, wine, hikes, markets, live music), explicitly not a swipe-dating app — romantic connection can happen naturally but isn't the pitch. Curated real-world events calendar + an automated daily discovery/link-health sweep + admin-vetted, currently-free membership. What the build does about it
The decision
Activity-led, not dating-led
The obvious build for single people is a matching app, and it is the wrong one: matching makes every interaction a judgement and puts people off before they arrive. Cape, by Solo organises around the activity instead — padel, wine, hikes, markets, live music — so the reason to turn up is the thing itself and meeting people is a consequence rather than the entry fee.
What you can check yourself
- Real events across Somerset West, Stellenbosch, Strand, Gordon's Bay and Cape Town, not a national abstraction.
- Runs on its own domain with its own identity, not as a page inside something else.
- Built on Next.js and Supabase, the same stack used across the studio, so it is maintainable by whoever holds it next.
